It's cold! Actually, cold wouldn't be the word I would use to explain the extreme freezing temperatures we are living through. Miserable, unbearable, horrible, would more describe my unhappiness with the weather. Yesterday it was -36...that's right...not a typo! You walk outside at it takes your breath away. We take the dogs for a walk and they end up limping home it is so cold. So, we all bunker in the house at night, because leaving the house for any other reason than work just isn't happening. So here we are, all snuggled up at home staying nice and toasty warm and...DUN DUN DUN!!!
As if the cold weather isn't enough, our furnace goes out. Why, of all times, does our furnace go out during the longest cold streak in years? Is it Karma? So, Marc fixes it, and it goes out again...and Marc fixes it...and it goes out again...fixed....broken...fixed...broken...over and over! So every morning for a week we wake to a FREEZING HOUSE! And every evening for a week we come home from work to a FREEZING HOUSE. Thank goodness we didn't get frozen pipes is all I can say.
Why don't we just call someone to fix the furnace...bright idea...but we aren't that bright. Do you know how much a heating company will charge to come after hours...which is the only time we are smart enough to think about calling a heating company? And, if I have a handy husband...well, why pay a heating company to come and fix something he can fix himself. Well, my husband couldn't fix it...not this time. So we lived through this...for a week! Every morning before we got out of bed, we had the same discussion. I would nudge Marc and say..."Honey, the furnace is out again". He would grunt. I would nudge him again and say..."No REALLY honey, it is out again...my nose is FREEZING". Then Marc would stir and say..."Oh no, it isn't out, I think we really fixed it this time" Finally I would do the manipulation tactic of..."Alright then, I'll go light the pilot myself...you just sleep in." That does it every time. He would jump up in the freezing cold house, and light the furnace. It would just be getting up to temperature by the time we would leave for work.
So, finally, our good friend Sherman came and bailed us out last night. He was my savior. He fixed the furnace...really fixed it this time. (I hope!). It hasn't gone out since yesterday evening before he came...which is a record. Thank you Sherman...YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
Cross your fingers it stays fixed!
